Coruisk - 26 - 28 March 2004

Skye is such a great place that we are visiting it twice! This time is somewhat different though, as we are staying at the Coruisk memorial hut, which is only accessible by boat or a three hour hike round the coast, which includes the infamous 'bad step', a scramble on a cliff face above the roaring waves! Hopefully we will have a boat but due to weather and organisational matters this should not be relied on. Although there is less choice of routes than from Glen Brittle, the actual situation of the hut is so great that this meet should not be missed, even if you don't plan on doing any walking. Unfortunately it might be a bit early in the year to enjoy a bonfire on the shore, but there will surely be a good party in the hut. Routes from here range from scrambling on the Dubh Slabs to more straightforward (well relatively anyway) walk up Sgurr nan Eag to a short stroll up the small summit of Sgurr na Stri (rumoured to be one of the finest viewpoints from which to admire the Cuillin ridge). Needless to say there is plenty of scope for climbing supposing the rock is in any sort of condition. As mentioned in the description of Glen Brittle, beware of the magnetic effect of some of the rock when taking bearings.

Landranger sheet 32 is suggested.
